Creme Brulee French ToastLeave a comment

This past weekend we headed to Bald Head Island for a wedding, we rented a beach house with ten other people, and had a blast! This particular dish is one my family serves on Christmas morning every year. I thought that it was the perfect breakfast for our beach weekend. I was able to make it before leaving for the rehearsal dinner on Friday, and popped it in the oven when we woke up on Saturday. It is a great make ahead brunch dish because you are able to let it sit in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

The wedding was so much fun and it was great to spend time with fabulous friends. Congrats Adam & Lauren!

What you’ll need:
1 stick unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. corn syrup
1 loaf of bread (I used sourdough)
5 eggs
1 1/2 cups half & half
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt

What you’ll do:
In a saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup into a thick sauce. Pour the syrup into a 13×9 pan. Slice bread and trim crusts if desired. Lay bread slices in one layer over the syrup. In a small bowl, combine eggs, half & half, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread layer. Place in fridge and allow to marinate. The next day or after 8 hours, preheat oven to 350 degrees, bake 35 to 40 minutes.
