I helped out my mom with my sister’s Halloween party at school by making these spider cupcakes. I made the cupcake part and the icing and the decorating was a joint effort by all. Believe me rolling out all those tootsie rolls legs by yourself would be a nightmare! I think next time for the legs, we would take a short cut and use black licorice or something similar. The cupcake was a chocolate pound cake base with a classic vanilla buttercream icing. They turned out cute and her class enjoyed eating them. Have a great Halloween weekend!

Chocolate Pound Cake Cupcakes

Decorating Inspired by Woman’s Day
What you’ll need:
1 1/2 cups of butter, room temp.
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 8-oz container sour cream
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup boiling water
2 tsp. vanilla

What you’ll do:
Cream butter, gradually add in sugar, beating well after each addition. Add in eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Combine flour, cocoa, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. Add boiling water and mix well. Stir in vanilla. Pour batter evenly into lined cupcake pans. Bake at 325 degrees for about twenty minutes.

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
What you’ll need:
2 sticks butter
4 cups 10X sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. milk

What you’ll do:
Combine butter and sugar until combined. Add in vanilla and milk, mix well.

Decorating Supplies:
Mallomar cookies for the body
M&M’s for the eyes
Chocolate covered sunflower seed for the nose
Tootsie rolls for the legs
