Sporting events are a huge part of any city. Of course when you live near a major city you are raised to be a die hard fan. My family has always been huge Phillies fans. My dad growing up in Northeast Philadelphia was a born and bred fan. My mom on the other hand moved around a good amount since my grandfather was a doctor in the Navy. It just so happened at one point they were stationed across from Veterans stadium and were able to walk to countless Phillies games. My uncle has been on the ground crew since he was 18 years old! I love how every April baseball season rolls around and we find ourselves at many games lasting through October. We have been lucky as Phillies fans the past few years making it to the playoffs.
My parents have season tickets and I sometimes get invited to go to the games. It is very easy for Blair and I to go throughout the summer as well. Of course when you attend a game you are surrounded by delicious foods, most of them inspired by popular Philadelphia foods and others that you can find at any ballpark around the country.
I have always wanted to participate in Foodbuzz’s 24 x 24 party since I signed up to be a Featured Publisher, but we were always busy on the dates that they were being held. I drafted this menu and saved it for June since I knew we would be free the last weekend. The menu I came up with was inspired by all the foods you can enjoy at Citizens Bank Park or while visiting the city of Philadelphia with some creative additions of my own. I wanted our guests to feel like they were at the ballpark.
Local brewed beer
Philly Phanatic drink (kiwi-lemonade spritzer)
Hot dog & bacon bites
Soft pretzel bites with dipping sauces
Main Dishes + Sides:
Pulled pork sliders + coleslaw
Peanut Butter Kandykakes
Build your own baseball hat sundae with “Graham Slam” ice cream
Peanut caramel popcorn
I had an absolute blast putting this party together. I also am happy to be spreading the family love of baseball to Blair since growing up in North Carolina he wasn’t ever much of a baseball fan. I gained a lot of inspiration from a fellow blogger, Kate at Lime Design, who recently threw a baseball themed party. My dessert table was inspired by a picture from Amy Atlas’s blog. I plan to do a separate post on the details of how I set up my table. If you are ever in the Philadelphia area and you find yourself with a free night, definitely hit up a game at Citizens Bank Park. Just a word of wisdom leave your Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets gear at home ;).
I’ll post many of these recipes in the coming weeks. Since the “Graham Slam” ice cream was such a favorite, that recipe will be making an appearance soon. Many thanks to Foodbuzz for sponsoring my party! Also special thanks to my family members for helping me in the final hours leading up to the party.
