As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my mom, sisters, and I had the pleasure of hosting a baby shower for my beautiful sister-in-law, Dawn. We are getting so excited for the arrival of our new grandson/nephew who is due on August 1st. So what happens when you put four creative brains together? You get one adorable shower (at least we thought so)! We had some inspiration from other blogs, but we ended up creating a menu/theme based off of children’s books. Being a teacher, I absolutely adored this theme. I decided it would be too overwhelming to do one big post so today I will be sharing the menu for the shower and on Thursday I will be sharing the decor. We had no problem coming up with the menu, I have broken it down below into appetizers, main dishes, and dessert. Not all of our dishes had a book to go with them, but many of them did. If the dish was inspired by a book, we displayed the book next to the dish along with a block and menu tag. We had a crowd of about 60 people at my parents’ house so the amount of food may see like a lot, but there were a lot of mouths to feed.
Probably one of my favorite parts of the entire shower was Peter Rabbit’s garden. I had seen an idea to serve the veggies in small individual terra cotta pots, but with the crowd we were having it was just not realistic. Instead we did larger pots with chalkboard signs. The appetizers were as follows:
Veggies & Ranch- The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Swedish Meatballs- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Chicken Salad in Tomato Bites
Pigs in a Blanket- The Three Little Pigs
Pink Lemonade- Pinkalicious
Iced Tea- No Dragons for Tea
Summer Spritzer (alcoholic)
I have already expressed my love for these ham sliders so we knew those would have to be on the menu, they of course were a hit! My brother-in-law also needs a shout-out here since he manned the grill for the salmon which got rave reviews.
Chicken Parmesan- Five Little Chicks
Cedar Plank Salmon- Rainbow Fish
Spinach and Quicche Lorraine
Marinated Asparagus- The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Green Deviled Eggs and Ham/Turkey & Cheese Sliders– Green Eggs and Ham
Fruit Salad- The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Strawberry Romaine Salad
Macaroni & Cheese, Macaroni Salad, & Lasagna- Strega Nona
Assorted Muffins- If You Give a Moose a Muffin
Chick Fil A nugget tray (for the kids)- Chicken Little
We rounded out the menu with some simple desserts with the cake being the main focus. I made some dirt and I can now tell you that I have an obsession with these mini glasses I made it in. It was the perfect little amount of sweetness. My mom, grandma, sisters, and I all contributed different cookies so that assortment is way too many to list. I can tell you that I baked chocolate chips and soft frosted sugar cookies (recipe coming soon)! I also can tell you that I have several new cookie recipes that I have to now make and share with you.
Assorted Cookies & Milk- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
