Now that I am back to work, I have fallen back into my school routine. I am one of those people who sleeps until the last possible minute, packs my lunch the night before, and enjoys a quick breakfast at work. The past few years my breakfast of choice has been a Greek yogurt, but sometimes I like to mix it up. This summer my breakfast of choice was oatmeal (oh how I can’t wait for some baked pumpkin oatmeal) and I am totally hooked. The part that I wasn’t set on was waking up earlier to make it, so in comes this solution. I know I could just buy the packets at the store, but why do that when I have everything I need already in my pantry. Plus I am sure the price of those packets are way more than what you will pay for this. All you do is measure out the oatmeal, add some brown sugar, and when ready to serve add your desired liquid and microwave! It took no time to measure out and zip up the baggies, now I am ready to start my school year off right. I plan to keep my bowl, some milk, and a spoon at work so whenever my oatmeal craving strikes, I can enjoy some before the kiddies arrive. DIY: Instant Oatmeal Packets
large container of oatmeal
a box of snack-sized Ziplocks (or whichever brand you prefer)
For each bag, measure out 1/2 cup of oatmeal followed by 2 tbsp. of brown sugar (you can adjust this to your liking. Zip it up and store!
When you are ready to eat:
Dump the contents of one baggie into a microwave safe bowl or cup. Add 3/4 c – 1 c of water or milk whichever way you prefer. Microwave for 1 1/2-2 minutes depending on your desired consistency. Top with chopped nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit, etc.
