A few years ago, my sister and I took our younger sister, Laura to a local play. It was not impressive, but from what I remember Laura really enjoyed it. And really isn’t that all that matters? There was this one twist on a traditional song that we love to poke fun of and sing around this time of year. It inevitably gets stuck in one of our heads and we try our best to get in stuck in someone else’s. This has nothing to do with food, but I am happy that the holidays are back and in full swing now! And now I will be getting a text message from my sister, Melissa about how said song is now in her head :).
I thought it would be fun to do a holiday round-up of homemade gifts if you are searching for something for that person who has everything already. Food always brings joy to people. I have several ideas up my sleeves for recipes that I would like to share for the holidays, but that will only be if I get my act together. With parent-teacher conferences at work this past week and some other personal stuff going on, I have been one busy bee. I do find comfort in being in the kitchen so you can almost bet that those things will appear on here soon! So without further ado, here are some ideas to get you started.
Hot Chocolate on a Stick– I made these last year for a holiday cookie exchange and they ended up being quite popular. I loved having some leftovers for Blair & I to snuggle up with some hot chocolate by the fireplace. They are adorable, are packaged pretty, and will make anyone’s holiday bright.
Chocolate Chip Biscotti– These biscotti are easier to make than you think, paired with a bag of your favorite coffee and a mug, you have yourself a great gift for the coffee lover in your life!
Cookie Dough Fudge-I made this fudge last year for Valentine’s Day, but I am happy I have it in my repertoire for the holidays. It is easy to make and oh so good.
Chocolate-Peppermint Thumbprints– Chocolate and peppermint is the peanut butter and jelly of Christmas combos. These chocolate thumbprints bake up beautiful and would look lovely all packaged up!
Peanut Butter Caramel Popcorn– I have gifted this popcorn on more than one occasion to my coworkers, it is easy to make and really easy to eat. Pair this with a gift card to the movies or some DVD’s for that movie lover in your life. Peanut butter + caramel= to die for.
One other gift that I was planning on making this year was homemade vanilla. Many blogs have this on their sites, check out the “blogs i love” tab to find the recipe on some of the blogs that I read daily. I haven’t tried it myself, but think that it would be a wonderful gift for that baker in your life. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday season and I hope that I have inspired you with some ideas!!
